A Geek’s Life

So I hopped over to the Stargate Worlds forums today, as I do from time to time.  Hadn’t been over there in about a week or so, but I noticed something new at the Beta Discussions section.  It said “IF YOU’RE INVITED, DO NOT TALK ABOUT IT HERE. PLEASE GO TO BETA.STARGATEWORLDS.COM“

Very interesting, looks like the beta’s going be here really really soon.  Still don’t have my invite unfortunetly.  Fingers crossed.

Still love the Blackberry.  Downloaded Google Maps, Flickr, some other nice tools for it.  It’s nice knowing that I’ve always got a good map and directions, and even satellite photos right at my fingers.  Also nice to be able to go into Best Buy, find something I like, then look it up on Amazon’s mobile site and find it for $15 less there!  Hah!  Take that price hikers!

So today the boss sprung on me that we’re all getting new cell phones.  Sounds good.  Then I find that I’m actually getting a freaking Blackberry Curve.  Now, I know I’m a geek, so I shoulda had something like this before now, but this is actually my first “smartphone”.  Hell, this is my first phone that can even play freaking mp3’s!

So this last week I’ve been pretty quiet.  I’ve really been just exhausted.  After GenCon I went right back to work, and just haven’t really had a chance to recover and just relax.  Needless to say, I’m REALLY looking forward to the weekend.

Well so far, GenCon has been awesome! I’m really tired now for some reason, so I’m kinda just blah with the bloggin right now, but I’ll try and lay out my experiences so far. The Dr. Horrible costume has been a big hit. I haven’t seen any others, but I’m getting recognized and asked for pictures left and right! It’s actually quite the odd experience, cause I’m usually so shy and don’t want to get noticed, just kinda hang in the back. But making the decision to dress as this, it’s gotten me quite a bit of attention, not used to that.

Ok, so I’m a geek, and a scifi geek at that.  I love Star Trek, grew up on it.  I also love video games.  I have played many a Star Trek video game.  Now, for a while now I’ve been following the up and down progress of Star Trek Online.

As of today, there is now a nice new gameplay trailer out for STO, and it is the shit!

I have just been feeling so freaking lazy the last couple of days.  I haven’t twittered, blogged, or even worked on my blog or portfolio sites.  Just done nothing.  I still feel kinda lazy, but hey, I can talk about my laziness now.  So what’s been going on.  Well…

Dr. Horrible costume

I ordered some goggles off of someone on eBay.  The pictures and description matched, so hopefully there’s no tricks with me getting something other than what the picture showed.

Also got my main jacket costume and the boots on the way, so it looks like it should be all coming together soon.  Should just have to paint the goggles, and the buttons on the costume (what the heck would that be called anyways, a jacket, smock, I dunno) and I should be all set.

Oh, and I also bought some khaki pants…oddly enough I didn’t have any already.

Other stuff
I don’t know if this was just a Michigan thing, but back when I was in either early high school or middle school, for some reason there was this big yo-yo craze going around.  Don’t ask me why, I have no idea.  But anyways, I saw something the other day that reminded me of that, so what did I do?  I went and bough a yo-yo.

Yes, I did.

I can’t really do much of anything with it, but hey, it’s kinda fun just messing around with it.

Stop looking at me like that, I’m a geek darnit, I can do whatever I want.

Speaking of geeky things, I’m actually not writing this post from the wordpress blog post writing screen thing.  I downloaded this browser called Flock.  It’s based off of Firefox and has a lot of social networking stuff built into it, Digg, Twitter, can even set it up with my blog info so I can do blog posts right from the browser.  I like it so far, so I’d say check it out if you’re constantly hitting sites like that.

Ok, well I’m done for now, back to being lazy!

Trying to get some themage going here, am currently using the Thematic theme for the blog now. (wow if you could only see the typos today, it’s like i can’t spell my way out of a wet paper bag)

Anywho, I’m gonna just use this theme and play around with it some to get the look I want.  I’m way too lazy with my own blog to actually make it’s own theme from scratch.

Oh, Dr. Horrible costume news, the site I ordered the goggles from are sold out, probablly due to massive Dr. Horrible fan orders.  They’re not getting any more till the end of August, so I’ve gotta find some other place to order them from now.  I’m actually hoping there’s a store locally that might have what I need.  We’ll see.

So as i’m sure you’ve read on my twitter by now…you being that imaginary person in my head that actually follows me on twitter and reads my blog…unless someone out there actually does do that, in that case, you is you.

Uh, yeah…anyways, my Dr. Horrible gloves came in today!  Yes, these are the same gloves that he wears in the show…the first piece of my costume for gencon has arrived.

So still waiting on the goggles to arrive.  When I ordered them, they looked exactly like the right goggles, but apparently they don’t make them in that color anymore, so i’ll be getting the right goggles, just…green.

Painting will commence asap.

Still gotta find some cheapish boots.  I found the actual boots from the show…but they’re freaking $70!  I just don’t have that kind of money to throw around for a costume.  So I’m searching for a substitute right now.

And the coat, well what NPH wore was actually a piece of wardrobe from Firefly, and I don’t think there’s going to be an exact match to that anywhere.  Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.  But I found something close, there’s this mad scientist costume at some costume shops online, and it has the buttons up on the shoulder.  It seems like the closest I’m gonna get, so I’m gonna see if any stores here in Indy have it and pick that up.

Well I think that’s all from me today.  Now to eat pizza rolls and play WoW.  Good day.

So what’s been going on…Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-long blog was just awesome.  I want more…more I say!  And if you haven’t watched it yet, then get on iTunes, pay the four bucks for it and join the online sensation before we all murder you!  NOW!  Well…not now, you can finish reading this first…but immediately afterwards!

Anywho, I’m also putting together a Dr. Horrible costume!  Got the goggles and gloves on the way…the exact boots are freaking $60 – $70, so I’m looking for some cheaper alternatives.  Just gotta find a close enough lab coat now, the one from the show was actually from Firefly, remember “Ariel”, where the crew ripped off an alliance hospital?  Yep, that’s what the doctors wore in that episode.

Ok…so now that you think I’m completely obsessed and crazy…

Planning on going to GenCon this year.  You know, I’ve lived in Indianapolis for freaking six years now, and never been to GenCon.

Here, take my geek card, I don’t think I deserve it.

From what I understand, and if anyone reads this and I’m wrong then feel free to correct me right now, GenCon is more geared towards the tabletop games and stuff, not so much the electronic media, right?  That’s really what’s kept me from going, cause I’ve always been a pc and console gamer, not so much into stuff like Magic and whatever.  But screw it, I’m gonna plunk down the money and get there this year.

And I’ll be going dressed as Dr. Horrible.
