Pardon the mess

So I’m Ken. If you’re seeing this near the time I’m actually posting this up, please excuse the messiness of the site. I decided to start playing around with the CSS right away, so it’s gonna look funky for a bit. But with any luck, no one should see this until it’s all styled and looking good.
I’ve tried the blogging thing a couple times before, but I just never seemed to keep up with it. But here I am giving it another shot, so we’ll see how this goes.
Anyways, so I’ve been working on a new website design for the company I work for. I’ve been learning a LOT about CSS lately, stuff that I should have learned a long time ago actually. But I’ve been playing catch up lately, so I decided to make a new site for KLA. It’s a hell of a lot more streamlined, easier to read and navigate, not to mention being fully css compliant is going to make it quite a bit easier to update and add new pages and such.
I’m using a lot less images in this new design. The old site, images for headers, buttons, menu…way too many images. Not to mention that it was all tables design. But for the new one, I’m letting the CSS do a lot of the work for me, and keep me mostly out of Photoshop, which is a nice change of pace.
One thing I don’t understand, I’m using iFrames for a couple of elements, parts that I need to have where I can just change one file, and have that change show across the whole site. On the old site I was using flash for that, but really, I suck at flash. Using iFrames I’m able to have images and styles that with the old flash implementation, it was really just plain text and looked like crap. So I’m getting a much better look, but I see a lot of bashing regarding iFrames around the tubes, and I’m just not sure why. Maybe people abuse them, don’t use them correctly or something, I don’t know, but with my experience with them, iFrames have been a life saver.
My only problem is I would like to have the frame height adjust to fit the content, but it’s not quite that big of a deal since I can just change the height value in the CSS.
Ok, well, I’m off to lunch now, so that conclude my first post in this blog. Have a good one.

Ken,
I was born and raised in Kankakee County. I enjoyed your political satire creations of the 70’s / 80’s . I would love to have copies.
